By a lucky chance, I happened on a fantastic display of mosaic work by the children of Gargrave CEVC Primary School in Yorkshire during the summer. The Head Teacher, Paul Duke, has kindly allowed me to share their work with a wider audience. Click on the thumbnails to see the full-sized images.
Mr Duke writes "The children thoroughly enjoyed the mosaic making which was done both at school as a class project for each class and at home as an individual/family project. This aspect of the Gargrave Roman Festival was organised by Lynda Hartnell who runs the Dalesman Cafe in Gargrave High Street. The whole event was organised by the Gargrave Parish Council and their Chairman, Mr Andrew Wood. Among other events which took place on the day were re-enactments of Roman Life, Roman Gladiator Combat and the Gargrave Roman Gods Trail. A bronze plaque showing Roman Gargrave was unveiled and due to the extremely good weather the whole event was a huge success."
